Acrylic Painting Lesson
I used Liquitex basics mars black and titanium white on the owl, and I airbrushed my background with Createx airbrush paints.
I’m painting on a Fredrix Convexo canvas that I added two layers of liquitex gesso to and sanded down for a smooth finish 🙂
If you work in oils I would layer this almost the same, the main difference being that I would have drawn out the owl on the canvas before I started painting my background. Because of how slowly oil paints dry, I could create a very similar look with those while painting around my subject. If I wanted to create that background in oils I would work pretty much the same way in creating circles in white and blending them softly into the dark blue background. Once that layer dried I could then glaze whatever color I wanted over the white. The look wouldn’t be exact, but it would be quite close.
I am always happy to have you copy my work for your own practice. Be aware of what reference photo I used, sometimes (as in this case) you will need to purchase the photo from the photographer to use even for practice. I will let you know when that is the case. As a general rule, you can not copy my work and make prints/sell that work. I retain copyright of the work I complete.
If you follow one of my lessons, you are more than welcome to post your work on social media to share what you’ve done, as long as you include in your post that you followed one of my lessons.
You can always use my techniques in your own designs and reference photos!
