Are you using your social media sites to promote your art? GREAT!!! Check your spelling!!
If you’re not checking your spelling, then you’re screaming to the world that you’re not intelligent. Harsh? Probably, but it’s also reality. This is not what most of us want to put out in the world. I’m going to let you guys in on a little secret. I am one of the worst spellers in the world. Ever. Seriously. Most of you have no idea of this though because I take that extra few seconds to make sure everything is spelled correctly before I hit that “post” button. Now we all have auto correct issues from time to time, but you need to be in the habit of pretending you know how to spell.
If you’re typing on a smartphone or tablet, the device will suggest the correct spelling of a word (or the wrong word altogether) but it will help. If you’re on a computer you have even less of an excuse to be lazy.
Here you can see how adding an extra “p” underlines the word in red so that I easily see that I’ve misspelled something. All I have to do is right click that underlined word and options will come up with suggestions for the correct spelling.
Want to take this a step further? There is an extension you can use for the Chrome browser (my personal browser of choice) called Grammarly https://www.grammarly.com/. With Grammarly you are also helped out if you use the incorrect your/you’re or their/there/they’re, making you appear to be even more intelligent!! YAY for faking IQ points! With this one, any time you type a post or email, you have a little number pop up when you make mistakes. When you hover your mouse over the red number and click “correct”, a new window pops up and will show you options for fixing those errors.
On a side rant, do not type in all caps and don’t use text speak (r u going 2 the park 2day). This is SO annoying for people to read. If you want people to take you seriously, start using real words in your social media posts 😀
