About Your New Art Teacher
Hi! I’m Lisa. Back in the days before the internet I was walking around Laguna Beach, CA, and came across a woman selling paintings of marine work for thousands of dollars. In my infinite understanding of the world (I was 19…I obviously knew everything), I decided my work was better and that meant I could make a TON of money as an artist. Turns out 19-year-old wisdom is questionable.
This started my journey as a professional artist. One of the things I found so frustrating was that there was no real information out there at the time besides some not so amazing painting instruction books. The only way to watch a video of someone painting was to buy a VHS tape. I could NOT afford $50 painting videos. This is where I make a snarky comment about how kids these days have no idea how lucky they are with all of the art content available for free on YouTube.
I even joined an art guild to try and learn how to market my work. Back then most established artists were not very helpful in helping younger artists. They acted like both technique and sales were secrets one must not share. I decided I was not only going to figure it out myself, but I would also share what I learned with other artists struggling with the same things. Be it technique or business and marketing, I’m here to share everything I’ve learned in over 25 years of teaching art with you!

I recommend everyone jump into lessons that feel too difficult in order to improve, so don’t just stick to all of my beginner classes! Try some of the more advanced lessons and you will be shocked at what you can accomplish!

I started watching beginner tutorials and they taught me how to hold a brush and apply paint to canvas but I wanted more.
