How to order a portrait

steps

Ordering custom portraits

  • Step #1 – choosing your photo Ideally I will have you email me many photos to choose from. What makes for a great photo does not always make for a good portrait. I am fairly picky about which photo I will work from, but it really is worth it in the end result. I will not work from a photo taken with a flash. It washes out the detail, color, contrast and makes the eyes look off. I prefer natural lighting coming from one side or another, not directly above (although occasionally mid-day photos do work well). There is no charge for sending me a photo to see if it will work. If you aren’t sure, email it to me and I will let you know.
  • Step #2 – getting started Once we have decided on a photo I will try several backgrounds in photoshop so that we can get an idea of what you like. Once you choose a background for your portrait I require a $200 non-refundable deposit to get started. I will send you photos of the work in progress if you would like. The time it takes me to complete the piece depends on the medium chosen and how many orders I currently have. Normally I can have a piece done within a month or so. If you are on a time limit you will need to let me know.
  • Step #3 piece is complete When everything is finished I will send you a photo of the piece for your approval. I will then send you your final balance (minus the deposit) including shipping. You can pay by Paypal or check. If paying by check I will wait to send your piece until the check clears.
