“with enough luck anything is possible”. I read that as a response to someone asking about art on Reddit. Let me say this loud enough that everyone in the back can hear.

LUCK. ISN’T. A. PLAN.

That’s about as stupid as waiting around for the government to improve your life. Not. Going. To. Happen.

If you want to improve your art, you don’t sit around dreaming about it or waiting for motivation to hit. You get up and go to the easel and work, in the mood or not.

If you want to grow on social media, you improve your art AND you post regularly. You don’t sit around waiting for an artist with a bigger following to share your content. That doesn’t make a big difference anyway. It always surprises me how many artists think that if someone famous or better known than them would just share their content they would be set. NOPE! You still have to work. And work HARD.

Art is no different than anything else in life. Sure, a handful of people win the lotto, but that’s not a retirement plan. If you want something from life YOU go out and get it. Luck isn’t a plan. It’s an excuse not to do the work.

I also see where artists think if they produce that ONE perfect painting, that will get them the fame they seek. NOPE. You’re going to paint something awesome, get a bit of attention for it, then you’re going to do it again. And again. AND AGAIN. You aren’t going to coast through your financial goals on a single awesome painting. Whatever you painted is forgotten by most within a few minutes. You need to work more, not wish for more luck in getting noticed. Even IF you had something go viral, it doesn’t even matter in the end. Unless you can get that attention consistently, it’s not doing you that much good.

So what do you do if you can’t just wish for luck? You work your butt off. You continuously strive to produce better art, better techniques, and better and more unique ideas. You paint or draw A LOT! You post to social media a lot. You put in the work.
